We stopped here as an overnight spot en route home to Colorado. The hostess was very nice and informative, and our spot was easy to access, a nice, level pull-through spot. We didn't even have to unhook! The spots are all grass, which made it very nice. There is a big Travel Plaza for gas across the street, and the Colonial Steakhouse is a short walk from the campground, and the food was pretty good for a restaurant in the middle of Kansas! The free garden was pretty picked over, as it was late Summer when we stopped there (almost Fall), but my wife found a nice pumpkin which she took with her. I'd definitely recommend this place as a stopover place en route to somewhere else. As there is not much in the area, it really isn't a destination campground, but then it does not try to be.

We used this campground as an overnight stay as part of a longer trip, but wow, if it wasn't so far for us to go (we are in Colorado), this would be a fantastic destination campground. It is very pretty with lots of easy to access, level, gravel sites, with full hook-ups for a good portion of them. Very pretty grounds. The lake is right nearby, and the sites are nicely spread out. The facilities are on par with a private RV park. The campground hostess who checked us in was extremely nice and helpful. We wanted to try some Kansas City Bar-B-Que, and she recommended Fiorelli's Jack Stack restaurant, and looked it up so we could have the address for our GPS Navigation system. And it was the BEST BBQ we've ever had! So if you try this campground, leave one night's dinner open for a short 12 mile drive to Jack Stack!

Very nice RV Park between the town of Custer and the western entrance to Custer State Park. It has well packed dirt interior roads, and nice, big level sites on gravel, with a grass lawn area in front of each site. Surrounding pine trees give it that "woodsy" feel, but there could be more trees actually in the campground. It was sort of open. We have a small (23') travel trailer, and felt somewhat overwhelmed with the number of big rigs that were here, but we have found that is typical of an RV park versus a public campground. Still, we weren't the only smaller unit, and everyone was very friendly, regardless how big or small their rigs were. The hosts were very nice and helpful. I'd highly recommend this park, especially if you prefer the full facilities of an RV park over a public campground, as a great base camp for exploring the Black Hills. If you like public campgrounds with at least electrical hook-ups, check out our review of Custer State Park, Stockade Lake North campground, which is just down the road and actually in Custer State Park.

It is a beautiful campground full of big pine trees, very close to the town of Custer and easy access to all of Custer State Park. It is not lakefront, but Stockade Lake is a short walk away. The fishing in the lake was pretty good. While the road through the campground is paved, the driveways and pads are dirt, and our site required considerable leveling. Also, accessing the site via backing up our trailer was a bit of a tight fit, but we made it. Once set up though, it is extremely beautiful and quiet. There is lots of room between sites, and the shower building was kept very clean. There is only electricity at the sites, but there is abundant water through the campground, including a faucet on the shower building that you can pull up to and refill your fresh tank, if you so choose (note that you can pull or drive your rig with an empty fresh tank and fill it when you get there using this faucet). There is a dump station behind the Cenex station in Custer, maybe a 5 minute drive away. Dumping is free if you fill up with gas, otherwise it would be $3.00. This is a perfect place to use as your base camp for exploring the Black Hills!
